The August campout for Modern Wagoneers was held in Durant, Oklahoma, at the Choctaw KOA RV Park and Casino.
The Choctaw KOA RV Park is an upscale park with concrete sites and full hookups. Susan and I stayed here in the past with my mother, but I was not aware of the amenities they have available for large RV clubs . . . .
Above, is the club/meeting room with leather furniture, fireplace, and flat-screen televisions at both ends of the room. The kitchen is off to the side of the meeting room with pass-through access.
The kitchen hosts commercial appliances and all accessories, including cooking utensils and full service dishes, silverware, etc.
Above, are commercial coffee and tea makers. The park even furnishes coffee and tea at no extra cost.
Below, is the saltwater pool. Adjacent to the pool is a full service laundry and men’s/women’s showers.

Air hockey, billiards, and other coin-operated games are also available.
And, of course there’s the casino!
Free shuttle service escorted us to and from the casino. When we were ready to go over for lunch at the $5.95 buffet, or play a few games, we simply telephoned the dispatcher and a shuttle bus picked us up at the coach.
Susan thinks it’s the most beautiful casino in the state.

I was more impressed with the performance of the slot machines than the atmosphere of the casino.
After everyone pulled in and set up, we gathered in the club room for a few games and dinner . . . .
Larry and Donna Keever, along with Susan and me, hosted this month’s event. The theme was patriotic for the month of July, and Donna provided very appropriate decorations . . . .
Because of the intense heat, we had no excursion outside the RV park and casino, but we did get together for supper at Hucks Catfish Restaurant in Denison, Texas. Most of us were in agreement that this is the best catfish we’d ever eaten. It’s just south of the casino on I-75, and considered a “must do” if you’re in the area. Larry and I provided donuts for breakfast on the first morning of the campout . . . ,
but the official Saturday morning breakfast cooks consisted of Larry, Susan, and Donna . . . .

The RV sites and facilities at this park get a AAA+ rating! The casino and buffet are “top-notch,” too. I suspect our group will revisit this establishment again real soon.
For those of you interested in RV tech information, I had a MaxxAir “Fan/Mate” hood installed over my Fantastic Fan before leaving for this trip.
The 100+ degree temperatures make it very difficult to cool down the coach upon arrival at the campsite. Installation of the hood allows me to activate the fan during transit and exhaust the buildup of hot air from the coach. I also had installed a smaller hood over the bathroom vent.
By opening the bathroom vent while the Fantastic Fan is in operation, a draft of outside air can be pulled from the upper level of the coach and exhausted through the kitchen ceiling via the Fantastic Fan. This solution didn’t completely eliminate the hot air from the coach, but it sure made it more bearable upon arrival at the campsite.
